Houses, with the same instruments
Commercial work is most of what we do, and the houses we take on get exactly the same method: measured, written down, and explained. Syracuse, DeWitt, Liverpool and the towns around them.
01
No heat
What we check, in order
- Outside first. In this city a buried vent terminal stops a modern appliance and looks exactly like a failure from indoors
- The filter. A restriction makes a furnace overheat and stop on its limit, and a seven-month season makes that far more likely here
- Ignition and flame sensing. Three attempts and a lockout is usually the ignition sequence, not the appliance
- Condensate. High-efficiency appliances make water, and a line run through cold space freezes
- The heat exchanger. Compromised means shut off, not repaired. That is not a negotiation
02
Not right
When it runs but the house is wrong
- One room that never keeps up. Usually a branch added later, a crushed run, or a return far too small. Room-by-room airflow turns the argument into a number
- Runs constantly. Often air lost before it arrives, so the thermostat is never satisfied
- Noisy. Velocity through an undersized return or a sharp transition
- Dusty however often you clean. Return leakage pulling attic or basement air into the system
- Cold but damp in summer. Oversized equipment that never runs long enough to dehumidify
Replacements
Before we quote one
- A load calculation for your houseRoom by room, from orientation, glazing, shading, insulation and use — not from the badge on the old appliance.
- Static pressure measuredAgainst the blower’s own rating. Original ductwork carrying its third appliance is the commonest reason a new system disappoints.
- Venting planned for four feet of snowTerminal height and location decided with a Syracuse winter in mind rather than with the installation-day ground level.
- Condensate routed through heated spaceOn any high-efficiency appliance. A line through a cold crawlspace is a January call-out waiting to happen.
- Permit filedWith the city or town office covering your address, and named in the quotation.
- Commissioned with numbersCombustion figures, airflow, temperature rise or split, written down and left with you.
When we will send you elsewhere
We are a facility contractor that also does houses. That is an honest description and it has consequences: if what you need is a domestic company with several vans and evening availability through the winter, we will say so rather than take the booking and disappoint you in February.
What we are genuinely good at on the residential side is the house that has already had two contractors out and still is not right. That is a measurement problem, and measurement is what we do.
